For some time now I have been thinking of designing some new products for my (non existent) label. For the last thre or four years knitting has been my number one passion. Apart from the costumes I made for various production making clothes for wearable.design wasn’t really what I was looking for. Ok, then maybe some knitted items? Clothes? Hmm, to much swatching, working on the pattern. What then? I love large knitted schawls. But, considering the amount of yarn – and I do tend to use luxurious blends – and the time spent working on them, The price for these schawls would be enormous… So I started to combine light wool fabric with knitted lace edgings. Let’s see where it leads…

I have also been thinking of making the “body” of the schawl with the knitting machine and then adding a delicate lace edging…

Vintage Knitting Patterns

Knitting with vintage patterns can be quite a challenge…I’m knitting this purse and gaiters from a vintage pattern for a knitting exhibition at the Textilmuseum in St. Gallen. At first I thought the pattern is like totally easy, but when I knit what I understand is meant it looks totally different than the picture. Might have to do some research on vintage stitches…shouldn’t be such a challenge for me as a historian…we’ll see…
